Jaipur Heritage Walk
Jaipur Heritage Walking Tour Through the Historic Old City
🗺️ Hawa Mahal → Tripolia Bazaar → Badi Chaupar → City Palace → Jantar Mantar → Johari Bazaar → Old City Gates
Jaipur is full of monuments. But the true character of the Pink City is not inside its palaces — it lives in the streets that connect them. The 300-year-old walled city is one of the finest examples of planned urban design in the world, and walking through it is the only way to fully appreciate it.
On this Jaipur heritage walk, you explore the most important parts of the old walled city with a local guide who knows every lane, every story, and every hidden corner. Hawa Mahal, City Palace, Jantar Mantar, and the royal bazaars — experienced as a living, connected city, not a list of tourist stops.
Available in the morning and evening. Easy pace, small group, and a walk that goes far beyond what any guidebook can offer.

Tour Itinerary
You meet your guide at Hawa Mahal — Jaipur’s most recognised landmark. Built in 1799 with 953 small latticed windows, this five-storey pink sandstone structure was designed so the royal women of the palace could observe street life without being seen from below.
Your guide shares the history behind this remarkable building and the royal household that commissioned it — a perfect introduction to the city you are about to walk through.
You enter the walled city through one of its original gates and step into Tripolia Bazaar — the main street of the old city. This bazaar has been active for nearly 300 years. Shops selling lac bangles, copper vessels, and traditional crafts line both sides of the street.
Your guide explains the precise urban planning of Maharaja Jai Singh II — a city layout so well considered that it still functions smoothly three centuries later.
Badi Chaupar is the central crossroads of the walled city — the point where all four major bazaars meet. Standing here, the symmetry of Jaipur’s design is visible in every direction. Your guide explains how each part of the old city was originally assigned to a specific trade or community.
The City Palace is the heart of Jaipur — a complex of courtyards, ceremonial halls, and gardens built over two centuries by successive Maharajas. What makes it unique is that the royal family still lives here today.
Your guide walks you through the outer courtyards, covering the architecture, the ceremonial history, and the story of the Kachwaha dynasty that built this city from scratch in 1727.
Jantar Mantar is a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by Maharaja Jai Singh II in 1734. It contains 19 astronomical instruments, including the Samrat Yantra — the world’s largest stone sundial, accurate to within two seconds.
Your guide explains how each instrument works and why this Maharaja built one of history’s most advanced observatories in the heart of a desert kingdom.
The walk ends with a slow stroll through Johari Bazaar — Jaipur’s famous jewellery and gem trading street. Jaipur is one of the largest gem trading centres in the world. Your guide explains the history of this remarkable trade and what to look for if you plan to shop.
